#GoJourny To Singapore |
Our exploration of this small island city-state off southern Malaysia kicked off this past June when we packed our bags and flew to Singapore for the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards. The goal? Catch up with our chef friends and get the inside scoop on the best restaurants, bars, and cafes to send YOU, our travelers.
We spoke to expats sitting side-by-side with locals, met Michelin-starred chefs who eat at hawker stalls on their days off, and, over the course of many meals, one-too-many drinks, and one-too-few nights of sleep, came to realize that unlike cities like Paris, Rome, or Tokyo that scream their culture out loud for the world to hear, Singapore whispers, quietly but confidently welcoming the curious, the hungry, to take a closer look. Local Singaporean food writer & cook, Annette Tan, put it perfectly… |
"You go and you order pathia from the Indian store. You order mee rebus from the Malay store. You order chicken rice from the Chinese store. And you’re eating all these dishes that represent every culture on a plate. And I think that says everything about who we are as Singaporeans." |
